This CNN report examines the record increase in gun sales this holiday shopping season as measured by FBI background search requests from gun retailers. The one day record set on Black Friday this year is up over 30% from the previous record set in November 2008.
There are multiple reasons given for the increase, but we feel that it is just a reflection of the fear that is felt by ordinary citizens about their future. The previous record in 2008 times with the election of a president that many feared would work to weaken 2nd amendment, and this year’s new record reflects the safety concerns of ordinary Americans.
Why the fear you ask? Here are our top 5 reasons to explain the fear that is driving the interest in gun sales.
- Fear of further attacks on 2nd amendment rights as activists and politicians work to impose new restrictions and regulations on gun ownership.
- Fear created by the class warfare rhetoric that began in late 2010 as the groundwork for the 2012 election was being laid by the Left.
- Fear driven by the publicity of callus acts of youths in flash mobs, and other violent acts captured by video. Common among many of the videos shared this year was a portrayal of a lack of remorse and the lack of concern about consequences from the perpetrators.
- Fear of terrorism by Islamist groups and drug cartels as they further infiltrate American communities.
- Fear of public reaction if food shortages hit communities because of attacks or natural disasters. Civility amongst neighbors will erode as unprepared citizens are faced with the reality of feeding themselves and their families.
Please prioritize the fears that we listed, or add explanations that we missed.

When I look around at the lack of morality exhibited by a growing segment of the population, it is a toss up who I fear most. The most likely scenario is that you will have to defend your family against gang members exploiting the confusion surrounding a disaster or other catastrophe.
