If there is one thing the MSM is consistent about it is protecting Democrats from the publicity of their gaffes, while working overtime to showcase Republican gaffes, even if they are non existent.
The focus of this week’s MSM news cycle is the multiple gaffe’s supposedly made by Mitt Romney. Let’s see, he said that media reports about problems with Olympic security in London were disconcerting, that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel, and that there are cultural differences between Israelis and Palestinians that account for the differences in economic achievement.
Were they gaffes? Lets see:
- The week prior to the opening ceremony of the Olympics saw the British media criticizing the lack of available security personnel hired and trained by the security firm hired to provide security. We had a little fun with the stories by questioning why it was so hard to find English speaking job applicants in England. Disconcerting? Definitely. A gaffe? Only to the media.
- Israel considers Jerusalem to be its capital even though the rest of the world is unwilling to acknowledge the fact. Awkward for the White House and the State Department? Definitely. A gaffe? Only to the media.
- The per capita GDP in Israel is approximately 1,000% higher than in Gaza. There has to be more to the difference than limitations on travel and imports/exports that Gaza lives under; maybe the Israeli culture of freedom and democracy has something to do with it. Yes, it is politically incorrect to suggest this, but a gaffe? Only the media seems to think so.
Let’s turn the clock back four years and see how the same media outlets handled a couple of Candidate Obama’s gaffes:
- I have visited all 57 States. A gaffe? Not to the MSM.
- John MCain has not criticized my Muslim faith. A gaffe? Of course not! In fact George Stephanopoulos went out of his way to correct him on the spot.
News coverage of these two major gaffes was non existent in the MSM. Just an observation my friends, but news coverage of the candidates seems to be a little lopsided. As we discussed last week, the MSM is slowly burying itself as it works tirelessly to influence our elections.
Every-time you here about a gaffe supposedly made by a republican candidate, you have to ask yourself why you are even paying attention to such discredited reporters when all you have to do is listen to the actual words of the candidate and judge for yourself if was in fact a gaffe, or maybe just a detour from the path of politically correct speeches.

Gaffe. A social or diplomatic blunder.
Olympic security. I think the gaffe here was Romney criticizing his hosts regarding their preparation for the Olympics. This was a big issue for the English press, we can be critical of our country, but not you foreigners, which was picked up in the US. Not huge issues in the grand scheme of things, but these things do matter in setting diplomatic relationships. I’m not exactly sure who the MSM is, although I hear that term frequently. The story was reported on FOX News.
Jerusalem. For the past 50 years, the official US position on Jerusalem, which includes Nixon, Ford, Regan, and the Bush’s, has been neutral; Jerusalem’s final status must be negotiated. That looks like a big diplomatic blunder. Definitely a gaffe.
Culture. I’m pro-Israel, but I think the elite political right has really scrambled the facts with regards to Obama’s unwavering support of Israel, as Defense Minister Ehud Barak and President Shimon Peres recently praised Obama’s commitment to Israel Nevertheless, Romney’s “culture” comment completely discounts the fact of life for the Palestinians. They live in occupied territories and have waged a 60 year war to gain back what they consider their homeland, their freedom. The result is a much lower standard of living than their neighbors. But this ignorance came from a guy born on third base. It’s to be expected.
Romney was in a unique position to offer comments about Olympic security and preparations given his experience with the 2002 Olympics. His comment that news reports about security were ‘disconcerting’ was entirely appropriate and accurate.
Israel considers Jerusalem its capital and he was speaking to an Israeli audience looking to see which direction a potential American President would take. The next presidential term will not allow the fence sitting enjoyed by previous administrations on the Palestinian issue. War is being thrust upon Israel and the region by Iran and its proxies; there is no longer any room for debate about which side we will support when the time comes.
I could understand a small variation of standard of living due to circumstances, but not to the extent that exists. When a culture focuses all of its attention on hate and refuses to make concessions for peace, there is little left over for improvements in economic conditions. The linked story I included in the article does a good job comparing GDP for the region and its varying cultures; it is worth opening and reading with an open mind.
